Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is probably one of the best Western MMORPG's ever made. The game can keep you busy in a lot of different ways because of the 3 spheres of leveling, but the lack of (low level) players still bothers me.
Yeah, the 3 spheres of leveling are unique indeed. You can regularly level XP, basically your character (as in every other MMORPG out there), but at least the leveling speed isn't as fast as with most Western MMORPG's. Actually, Vanguard is somewhat like an Asian grinder
Then there is the crafting sphere of influence. Though it's 'just crafting, Vanguard does offer a fresh look on it. Actually, you as player can determine the quality of the outcome of your craft in a lot of ways. And honestly, I gotta say that Vanguard's crafting system is one of the best I've seen so far...
Last but not least the diplomacy sphere of influence. This is rather a unique feature in Vanguard. I haven't seen it yet in any other MMORPG, and most single-player RPG's won't offer anything similar. This feature allows you as player to get things done by a 'card game' dialogue with NPC's.
Though Vanguard does offer all these great features, the most important feature for an MMORPG is lacking: PLAYERS I know that I've quited Vanguard more than once because of this. Though the server does seem more alive these days, most players that are returning are in the higher levels. New players are still a bit hard to find.
I really do hope that when Vanguard goes Free2Play, that it'll attract new players as well, so that the game is more fun to play, and I don't feel alone as a level 10 Blood Mage. I do want to party occasionally, find an active guild (yet an other thing that's a problem in Vanguard - enough guilds recruiting, but most are very inactive) and enjoy the game in general.
So for now it's Bye Bye Vanguard and I'll wait or the Free2Play transition, hoping for better times...
