Starting & Ending MMORPGs

Today was an odd day. I've started and ended with a MMORPG.

Lets start with the ending of an MMORPG. And it makes me sad to end it, but I have every reason for it.
Allods online. The game looks so extremely promising. Though it's a 2 sided Faction war, the idea of Space Fantasy was what pulled me to the game. But only a few minutes ago I read an article on MMORPG.com concerning the cash-shop in the game. The prices charged there were hard to believe, so I logged on, checked the cash-shop and saw hey were accurate.
WTF??? The prices are even more than the purchase and monthly subscription of a Pay2Play game. And then to think you need the perfumes each time you die (yes, all 20 of them on level 40, so you pay $13.50, or you have to wait for HOURS before you can actively play again.
So there was only one option for me: deinstall the game and try forget it as soon as possible...

Then the starting of an MMORPG. This also started today on MMORPG.com
I made a topic called My turn to ask advice for a new MMO . Mostly because I am so bored with the MMORPGs these days, that I had some fresh look at what I could play and like. As you can see, there came 2 serious proposals: Archlord (been there, played it and left) and Fallen Earth.
I gave Fallen Earth a try in the open beta, but didn't get the hang of it. It was the control thing that got me stuck, and at the time there was not enough help to get going, so I gave up on it after less than 1 hour.
Now Fallen Earth allows a 10-day trial, and I thought to give it a new try. I found the manual and for (probably) the first time I've read the manual of a game I downloaded it, installed it and after less than 2 hours I was ready to play.

The tutorial was great. It got me hooked immediately. Though you start as level 40, you know you'll end up dead (players were so kind to spoil that part) and start as level 1 again. And so things happened... I completed the tutorial in a big bang (yup, you get yourself blown up saving a hooverdam, the last part of pre-apocalyptic technology around), and 4 years later you've been brought alive again.
Then came the part of getting started all again, and I managed so far. I've played for over 3 hours after my resurrection, am still level 1, but I'm getting to know the game pretty well, and I have to say, so far I like it. The game is a sandbox based system with levels. No actual classes, but guides (and you don't have to follow guides) on how to level skills to become a certain profession. In many ways the skill based system is much like Morrowind and Oblivion.
Then there was the part of the post-apocalyptic setting. I thought it was not my thing, but as an MMORPG it's fun to be there. You have to teach yourself to stay alive by gathering, crafting and (of course) fighting. There are few other survivors (yes, I mean the NPCs) of the apocalypse, and those survivors need your help, but they're also split up in factions. Here things get interesting... There are 6 factions, 2 allies, 1 arch enemy and 2 enemies.

Hmm... perhaps you'd better go to the Fallen Earth site yourself and get the trail to give it a try yourself...

Oh, one last thing. Even though Fallen Earth is an indy game, the graphics are pretty good (no DX10 support yet that I know of), and the sound is not that bad as well. It's not all as polished as Aion, but then again, we just survived the apocalypse, so what kind of world do you expect to see...
