Bloody Swamlnad AoE
22 may 2013
Posted in Lineage II
I have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to leveling. I was only level 86/83 when I left Lineage II last year, and since then most players I used to know are already around level 95 by now (the legit ones - the botters were the first to hit 99). So I've been looking for a way to level up easy and fast, and it looks like I found it: AoE at the Bloody Swampland.

The Bloody Swampland used to be overly crowded at the release of the Goddess of Destruction where you literally had to fight for your own monsters (also because you needed them for the daily quests), and the amount of bots there was HUGE. Well, as said, most bots have been level 99 for already a long time, so those are gone there. And the amount of players there is no longer so large. At my current spot there are always one or 2 players around and when they see I pull half the field there they mostly leave

So... AoE it is... Demi and Zilla together with Demi running around, pulling half the field (as mentioned already) hop into that one good corner there is at the tree (the other corners are too open) and do what dwarfs are good at - pole them down!

Only problem running around there is that damn annoying special ability of the Swamp Stalkers. Okay, they give nice XP, but they make me rubberband. At first I thought it was indeed rubberbanding, but then I realized that they pull their victim toward them This makes the pull a bit harder from time to time. Not to mention a lot harder when I pull almost a dozen of them

At this moment I'm close to 87 on both Demi and Zilla. From the looks of it I can stay here till around 90 (or until someone takes my spot...). This means that the coming weeks I have enough to do. That is aside from all other things that come up, like Seeds of Anahilation - Nursery (running that on Demi's healer dual-class BTW) and the dungeons that the alliance does.

I really hope to hit that 90+ limit fast though. There are a lot of requests in the alliance for DD and healers for a lot of 90+ dungeons and I so do wanna join them! Also, I need to boost Demi's healer dual-class as well. I know that dwarfs are not the top-healers around, but I really want to practice healing in dungeons (done one already yesterday as healer BTW - went pretty well).

DING DING - Wake up!
20 may 2013
Posted in Lineage II
It's been a busy day for me today. I aimed to hit 85 today or tomorrow. Since I couldn't sleep last night, I was already up at 4am this morning and started to play.

At first I was grinding my way through Giant's Cave and later I moved to the Field of Silence. But the XP grind was so extremely slow that I thought to change my tactics. Around 7.30am I was at the Bloody Swampland for the daily quest and I noticed that the amount of XP I got there when Zilla was doing the work was massive. I'm talking about 800K to 1M XP per monster there

So I decided to star there and around 10am I managed to hit level 84 already
l2 2013 05 20 10 40 10 23

From my calculations, I was doing about 15% XP an hour and I really was thinking to stay there all day. But real life called and I just couldn't

When I got back 2 hours later, I was chatting in the alliance and Tiferet offered to help me power-level so that I could get that remaining 25% a bit faster. Well, that worked! In 2 sessions (and the last 10% without any vitality left) she boosted me to level 85. Only thing she required was that Zilla would be thre to buff (out of party). Well, DEAL!

Around 8pm I finally hit level 85 and the path to awakening was open for me.
l2 2013 05 20 19 39 11 35

Since I still had that Stone of Destiny (from the Goddess of Destruction release) with me I was not bound to stick to summoner. Since I was already in doubt between summoner and healer and spoe about it with Tiferet, I made up my mind to go for healer...

But that didn't go as easy as expected...

The awakening movie kinda stuttered and I didn't get who to talk to. And since it was already over a year ago I awakened Demi the last time I really had no clue where to go, other than Talking Isle. Running around like a headless chicken for an hour I finally found the one to talk to and the actual quest was very easy.

Then the change... That's an other thing of trouble. It took the game over 5 minutes between the moment I said I'd go for healer till I saw the cut-scene that I'd actually meen awakened. With that, a butt-load of glitches appeared, including a part of my UI removed, later a full black screen with the remainder of my UI available. In that black screen, I could read chat, but not type myself and I could not use the ALT-X menu (and thus not exit).
After a forced close I logged on again and indeed, I was a healer with a lot of skills that I've never used before. Exchange the skills for the awakened ones and ready to go...

Well, I thought... I really need to learn to play the healer class I've already seen. It's not the same as the pre-awakened healers. To get to know the awakened healer I'll do a Seeds of Anahilation dungeon I think...

Name change (full circle once again)
19 may 2013
Posted in Lineage II
Sometimes one makes a decision and regrets it later on. This time (well, late 2011) it was my time to make such a bad decision: change my character's name. Back then I changed my name from the well known DemiGoth to MissPumpkinhead.

At the time I thought the name was fun, and I got a bit tired of DemiGoth in each and every game. But quickly I had responses from in-game friends and clannies who thought that MissPumpkinhead was just ...meh... And through time (though not long since I quited 4 months later) I thought the same about the new name.

Looking into the name-change (back), I learned that with the Goddess of Destruction, that there was no way to change your name back to the original one, though I was pretty sure that before GoD I was told I could change it back. On well, that's life and when I returned earlier this week, I still faced MissPumpkinhead

But I thought to make a support ticket asking it it's possible to change my name back. The GM working on my ticket (Tangent) immediately pointed out the Name Change Ticket in the cash shop, because he missed that I wanted to change back. He also told me that on Chronos I could not pick DemiGoth anymore but that on Naia it was still available. When I explained him that DemiGoth was my former character's name and that I just couldn't make a level 1 character to use the ticket, he offered a very good solution:

I may have made a bad assumption. The only server that cannot use the name DemiGoth is Chronos. I see that you transferred your character from Chronos once upon a time. Unfortunately, that name and character are locked on Chronos and I cannot change or alter them. However, if you wanted to use the name DemiGoth on Naia, which I see that you used to have, I can make that happen. Given that my major concern as a GM about name changes is potential impersonation of another player, I do not have a problem with personally manually giving you back the name DemiGoth.

If it is Naia that you wanted the name on, go ahead and purchase the Name Change Ticket and reply back confirming the information you want changed. Unfortunately, if it is on Chronos, I cannot actually affect that character or name on that server.

Of course I wanted my Naia character named back to DemiGoth and I immediately purchased the required NCoin for the ticket and updated the support ticket for further instructions.

l2 2013 05 18 22 08 45 85

GM Tangent logged on and we had a bit of a chat (well, mostly instructions his side, the chat was afterward when the name change was done). He made all arrangements, I got kicked from the game by a GM (there's a 1st time for everything ) and logging back on my character was indeed named DemiGoth *YAY*

Now you wonder "full circle once again"..? I kinda had the similar thing happen with Lord of the Rings online where I moved a character named DemiGoth off the server, and then moved an other character with a different name to my original server which had to be renamed as well (to DemiGoth of course...)

What to awaken the dual class?
18 may 2013
Posted in Lineage II
I'm wondering what I should awaken the dual class of MissP. As you can see to the right she is an Elemental Master right now, but I'm still not sure that I want to make her a summoner when I awaken the dual class. I still have that Stone of Destiny in my (quest) inventory, so I can still make a choice for the awakening of the dual class...

At first I thought to make the dual class an Othello Rogue, allowing me to spoil my monsters and craft the items I need. But there might be a problem with that since my 2nd subclass is a Bounty Hunter already, and I'm not sure if I can awaken as one if I already have a rogue class between my subclasses. Also, I'm thinking to make an other dwarf and make that one a Bounty Hunter and awaken it as Othello Rogue.

An other nice option might be to awaken the dual class as a tank. It surely will save me on the amount of gear I carry along since that one uses heavy as well. Then again, as a dwarfen crafter, I always walk around with a robe set for when I sit down and craft...

Perhaps healer..? I've seen a dwarfen healer before, and it's really funny to see us smal people use the healing skills But well, now that I'm talking about a robe-using class anyway, what's wrong with awakening as a summoner after all? I mean, having up to 4 pets around me is kinda cool - I do have to compensate my size after all

Missing the old days...
17 may 2013
Posted in Lineage II
I'm not sure if it's a psychological effect that the first MMORPG one plays will be the one with the best memories. You know what I mean, the first moment you step into a persistent virtual world and you were awed by everything you saw and how the dynamics of the game made the world actually happen. Of course, along with all the other players around you...

That first MMORPG for me was Lineage II back in February 2005 when started on a private server, and that I started to play on the official this weekend 7 years ago now (damn, it really was May 2006..?). Lineage II really made me awe and I enjoyed every step I took there. Sadly though, through time the game's story progressed, and when the Goddess of Destruction came along late 2011 it was my time to quit my adventures in Aden.

Ever since I've been hopping from one MMORPG to an other, spending money on new MMORPGs buying the boxes and pay a couple of months of subscription. But every MMORPG that I played after Lineage II just couldn't substitute the original experience I've had with Lineage II

Earlier this week I've visited the old Dragon Network site again, and I saw that it was still around. I downloaded the old High Five client (that took almost 2 days ) only to find that the server was kinda dead. Yeah, there were two heroes yelling in chat and I saw 3 players run around in Rune, but that's about all there's been happening. Not to mention, the guy I gave my passwords to kinda stripped my characters. All there's left are 2 A-grade sets and that kick-ass pole. My C-duals +15 are gone, my Tallum-DLE is gone. And I have no clue where to restart playing again on that old server. Not to mention, the economy there was broken due to hacks & exploits and it still is broken...

So back to the NCSoft servers then? I'm not sure... The Goddess of Destruciton is still roaming the lands. But at least there are changes coming soon. The one thing that I thought was so great about Lineage II was the huge diversity of the classes, and with the upcoming expansion (which comes with a new land-dragon as well), those are somewhat re-introduced again.

So yeah, right now I'm actually downloading the official Lineage II client and I'm hoping that the upcoming changes will give back that original Lineage II feeling that I had when I started playing back in 2005.

Now I hear you wonder... What about Neverwinter..? Well, I'll still be playing that one but on a less regular basis. Same goes for the upcoming expansion of Star Trek online, I have bought that $20 pack and I certainly will play it. But if I really start to like Lineage II again, I'll make it my main MMORPG again

32 classes are coming back!
20 february 2013
Posted in Lineage II
One of the reasons I liked to play Lineage II (and gave up on it with the Goddess of Destruction) is the wide variety of classes. As you know, with the release of the Goddess of Destruction, the 32 classes were reduced to the 8 arch-classes that Lineage II knows (which was one of the reason for me to quit playing Lineage II).

But today I've read on the MMORPG.com forums that in Korea the latest Goddess of Destruction chapter (Lindvior) has gone live and that it has re-introduced the 32 different classes that Lineage II used to have *YAY* Though these classes are now based on the 8 arch-classes, every race has it's own (pre-Goddess of Destruction) special abilities.

This would mean that my dwarven Tyr Warrior would become a Tyr Maestro, a warrior specializing in crafting (of course) and the use of two-handed weapons (odd, dwarfs used to have bulnt & shield in the past) and poles. Also, the old Fortune Seekers are the only rogues that can spoil again and (hopefully) loose their crafting ability.

Now is the big question if I'd start playing Lineage II again when this new chapter will go live in the US coming April. Well, honestly I'm not sure yet. A lot has changed since Goddess of Destruction and though the merging of the classes was the main reason for me to quit playing, a couple of other things were too annoying for me to stay as well. I will certainly give the new expansion a serious try though

Lineage III development started?
15 february 2013
Posted in Lineage II
I've found this article on the net:

South Korean giant to use Epic's dev platform build 'top tier games of a massive scale'

MMO publisher and developer NCSoft has licensed Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 in a new long-term deal.
The agreement means NCSoft can use the next-gen development platform for its upcoming projects, with the company planning on building “top-tier games of a massive scale”.
NCSoft also becomes the first studio to license Unreal Engine 4 in South Korea.
“Unreal Engine 4 is an extremely fascinating game engine in terms of its unprecedented efficiency and performance,” said NCSoft chief product officer James Bae.

“We plan to release our best game ever using our Unreal Engine expertise and the new state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 4 tools.”
NCsoft signed a similar deal with Epic Games in March last year to develop and publish games using Unreal Engine 3.
The South Korean company has previously used Unreal Engine to create and publish a number of titles, including fantasy MMORPGLineage II and and martials arts MMORPG Blade & Soul.

From the header 'top tier games of a massive scale' all I can think of is that they've licensed the Unreal 4 engine for the development of Lineage III. Also because after the license of the Unreal 3 engine not a word was spoken about Lineage III at all.

If Lineage III is off for a new start, lets hope it'll be as good as Lineage II was back in the first 5 chronicles. That was the time I enjoyed Lineage II the most (and a lot of veteran L2 players with me) because the game was just hard and harsh. High death penalties, drop chance of items and stuff like that is what was fun back then.
Also the PvP in the early chapters (till the release of Goddess of Destruction) was fun then as well, though I think the demonic weapons did kinda spoil the PvP fun IMO.

Well, time will tell, but if Lineage III is indeed in the making, I hope it'll be released for the Western market as well (most likely it will be) and that we don't have to wait too long for it either...

New NCSoft account management system
26 october 2012
Posted in Lineage II
I've been waiting for this day to happen. NCSoft has been announcing it on their account management site for months already, but today they actually implemented it - the new account management system. This system is somewhat different from the old one, where per NCSoft master account you can have only one Lineage II and one Aion account. With having 4 used Lineage II accounts, I had to make 4 new NCSoft master accounts, leaving all the unused Lineage II accounts, the City of Heroes and Guild Wars account on my old NCSoft master account...

NCSOFT Follow us on: FACEBOOK TWITTER

NEW NC ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR NCSOFT GAMES
BG

Over the next few months, Aion® and Lineage® II players can migrate to the new NC Account management system that allows you to log in using your email address. Instead of managing your Aion and Lineage II account from your Aion and Lineage II game accounts, you will manage those games from your new NC Account. An NC Account can manage one activated Aion game account and one activated Lineage II game account.

As of right now, when you log in you will be offered the choice to migrate your Aion or Lineage II game account. For the next few months migration is optional, but eventually all Aion and Lineage II game accounts will be migrated to the new NC Account system.

IMPORTANT: In-game items that are not applied to characters before you migrate will no longer be available to you after migration, including unlimited use items such as Aion Pets, Collector's Edition bonuses, and POSA card bonuses. To review and apply in-game items to characters, go to your Game Accounts page, click on a game account and click Apply In-Game Items.

3 days of lag
09 august 2012
Posted in Lineage II
So I gave Lineage II a new try, hoping I could return to it. Well, I can return for sure since it's Free2Play, but I'm in doubt I will. Reason is the lag cause by bots (as before).

Like many times before, bots are the biggest problem in Lineage II, and since it went Free2Play, the problem got bigger and bigger. It's even *THAT* big that NCSoft can't solve it. Oh yeah, they're saying it's on top of their list, but basically, you can't fight bots in a Free2Play game, unless you're gonne ban on IP basis and even then they'll find ways around it...

So bots it is... Everywhere I tried to level up I saw bots. Mostly 'players' with buff-bots following them (pretty neat to see a 'player' follow an other 'player' while it's not even targeting the other one). Though I can live with those kind of bots, they do create lag.

But the bigger problems of bots are the RMT spammers in every village. Oh yeah, there's a minimum level before you can yell (10 iirc), but botting these RMT spammers up, level 10 takes only what, 15 minutes?, to hit. As the 'player' bots, these RMT spammers also cause lag, but they also cause something else: annoyance (to me at least). They spam so much, that it's almost impossible to read ANY OTHER chat said by actual players in the city. I even had to take down the yell and trade channels in the other chat-tabs, only to be sure I'd be able to read regular spoken chat (/say in most MMORPG's) in the city.

I think Lineage II is really dead for me now. I have given it one last shot, and with the bot problem still remaining and NCSoft not doing a freaking thing about it, I'm not returning, and not paying them the $50 for the Awakening Class Change token. It is at times like these I'd wish Lineage II was still a subscription based MMORPG...

Peeking at Lineage II again
06 august 2012
Posted in Lineage II
Yes, you read it right. After half a year of not playing Lineage II, I might be coming back to my most favorite MMORPG. But a warning up-front to tell you that I won't play it as much as I did in the past

I was reading back on why I left Lineage II, and mostly it was because of 2 reasons:
   1. The treadmill of doing the same daily instance over and over again to gather tokens and exchange them for gear later on (damn, sounds like a gear-grind to me ). Though this still might be an issue, playing World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Replublic have learned me to 'appreciate' this feature. Not to mention, it's a way to get 'cheap' gear in Lineage II, in a game-economy that's been broken for years thanks to the RMT.
   2. Tyr Warrior is a boring class, and as I said back then, if I knew this upfront (perhaps I should participate on the PTS with the next big expansion?), I would have made her an ISS enchanter (and mothball Gothzilla as well). Well, not I can make MissP the ISS Enchanter I wanted her to be with the Awakening Class Change token. Only problem though is that I blew up her duals a while back so I have to get a new set of duals then...

Then there's the problem of the clan I created long ago. When I left I passed on leadership so that the clan could continue to exist. But times change and the clan got inactive and merged with a bigger one, leaving alts in my old clan. Good thing that I could contact the player who has his alt as leader now, and he is willing to give me the clan back, if I won't kick his alts (which I won't). I might even get the clan active again, but all in good time though...

For now, first level up MissP's dual class (very close to level 83 now), and then see what class I will awaken her to. Logically I'd say Othel Rogue, since the ISS Enchanter already wears light, so I won't have to carry around a lot of stuff On the other hand, I'm no rogue player (never really was), and being summoner seems like a lot of fun as well with 3 servitors around me...
